The first cycle River Basin Management Plans were the initial water management tools required under the EU Water Framework Directive. River Basin Management Plans were published in 2010 for each of seven regions (River Basin Districts) in the country for the period 2009-2015. SWAN identified a large number of weaknesses in the plans, outlined in our submission to the Government at the time.
